Senior Pictures in Midlothian

Dalton is a 2020 Graduate of Midlothian High School.  He came to us for senior pictures in Midlothian.  We specialize in location lighting and posing for senior portraits for guys and girls.  Dalton is the Varsity goalkeeper for the Midlothian High School soccer team.  He is also a youth leader in his church and an outstanding student.  Dalton had already taken his Cap & Gown Portrait with the contracted school photographer.  He came to Ivey Photography for senior portraits that allowed him to be himself and show his true character.

A Walk Around the Block

Our extended senior portrait session is a custom experience for each student we photograph.  Dalton has many talents and aspects of his life that make him unique.  He is not only an excellent athlete, but his faith in God and his superior speaking skills make him an excellent youth leader at his church.  He is attending Oklahoma State University in the Fall.  We captured images for him that showcased those important aspects of his life.

We love our studio space.  One of our advantages over “at home” photographers is that we can capture studio work and in five minutes be outside capturing in downtown Midlothian, or downtown Dallas.  For Dalton’s senior portraits, we simply walked outside.  The fall colors were still hanging on to some of the trees.  I used a low angle to isolate Dalton from the busy street and frame him against the warm leaves in the trees.  Using an off-camera flash, I was able to add just a kiss of light to brighten up his face.  We found another isolated patch of color in front of a stone building to create an image Dalton requested.  He wanted to be shown reading his Bible.  He is an avid reader and studies his Bible regularly.  The streetscapes in town are nice for portraits.  There are long stretches of sidewalk with overhanging trees that create nice vanishing points for a portrait background.  We made a series of captures using those backgrounds that are some of my favorites.

We headed back to the studio for a change of clothes.  Dalton sent me a few inspiration images prior to the session.  One of those was a brick wall with a superimposed portrait and a dramatically lit portrait merged together.  We found a large brick wall and isolated Dalton with our lighting.  We used an in-studio capture to add to the wall later in Photoshop.

Soccer Portraits in Studio

Dalton is wild about soccer.  I wanted to create a collection of images for him that spoke to his passion for soccer.  Back in the studio we set up a lighting scenario that would show off Dalton’s athletic build, and chisel his face against the background.  In Photoshop, we extracted those images and placed them into a montage.  Each individual portrait represents a different aspect of why soccer is important or how Dalton feels about soccer.

Products and Packages

Once all of the images were complete, Dalton and his parents came to the studio for his ordering appointment.  Their primary takeaway was a large metal print of the soccer montage.  We also delivered a selection of Do It Yourself digital files and a handful of gift prints in sizes 8×10 and 5×7.  We offer a mix of digital files and printed products.  The digital files are for convenience but are not meant to last forever.  Who knows where technology will take us in the next 50 years.  Our printed products like the metal print Dalton purchased are archival printings meant to last for generations.  There is no substitute for a portrait hanging on your wall or an album on your coffee table.
